2018 Phoenix Violence Is Increasing At An Alarming Rate

According to crime statistics released by the Phoenix Police Department, Arizona saw a rise in violent crime cases. Data from the Phoenix Police Department’s Crime Analysis and Research Unit showed that there had been a 25% increase in aggravated assault and homicide reports. Overall, there had been a 140% increase in homicides.

violent crime rate increased from 361.6 per 100,000 people in 2014 to 373.7 per 100,000 in 2015, and increased again to 386.3 per 100,000 in 2016 (see Figure 1 and Appendix B). Likewise, the homicide rate increased from 4.4 per 100,000 in 2014 to 4.9 per 100,000 in 2015, and to 5.3 per 100,000 in 2016 (see Figure 2 and Appendix B).
